What: Kevin White Heritage Red Wine DuBrul Vineyard Yakima Valley 2013 $35

Where: McCarthy & Schiering (Queen Anne location), Esquin, Bin 41, Pete’s Wine Shop

Why: DuBrul Vineyard in the Yakima Valley has long established itself as one of Washington’s top sites. It’s the estate vineyard for Cote Bonneville, which consistently puts wines in our annual Top 100 Washington wines list, and is also the fruit source for a number of other high-end Washington producers, such as Owen Roe and Rasa Vineyards.

As DuBrul Vineyard wines have garnered acclaim and high scores, the cost of the wines have inevitably crept up, with most coming in somewhere between $50 and $100. That’s part of what makes this week’s wine so exciting. It comes from the same vineyard but comes in at a more than reasonable $35—and it’s every bit as good.

The 2013 Kevin White Winery Heritage Red Wine Yakima Valley ($35) is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It brings nuanced aromas of herbs and barrel spice that are followed by polished dark cherry flavors that lead to a lengthy finish. It drinks like a fifty-plus dollar bottle but leaves plenty of change in the pocket. Drink up!
